Ashley speaks in Denver about women’s issues
Ashley Judd, actor and activist, is in Denver for the DNC. Joining pro-choice activists, she traveled to a Cherry Creek neighborhood to talk about one of her
most important causes, women’s health and reproductive rights.

She has helped these causes since she was a college sorority girl at the University of Kentucky. One summer, she and a fellow Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority sister drove cross country to see the nation. They stopped at Planned Parenthood clinics all along the way to help young girls who were being taunted by anti-abortion activists. This experience framed her future passions on women’s health rights, attacking poverty around the world, and serving the sick and powerless in Africa. full story

A-list actress has speeding ticket from ’93
Hollywood actress Ashley Judd has never paid the fine for a speeding ticket she received in Dyer County in 1993.

Judd was stopped at 4:25 p.m. June 6 on I-155 around mile marker 6, after Tennessee Highway Patrol Sgt. Robert Moore’s radar clocked Judd’s black Mercedes 300CE coupe zipping along at 87 mph in the 65-mph zone. She was passing another vehicle when radar tracked her at 22 mph over the speed limit.

“She asked me if I knew who she was,” laughed Moore, recalling the stop. “I said it really didn’t matter.”

Judd told Moore the car was a recent gift from her mother, country singer Naomi Judd, and she was on her way to her Malibu, Calif. home.

Since Tennessee and California in 1993 had no reciprocity agreement for motor vehicle violations, Moore held Judd’s driver’s license to assure she either appeared in court or paid the $125 fine. The actress did neither. The license remains held.

Judd was relatively unknown at the time, but had started acting the month before in the first season of the NBC television series ‘Sisters.’

Judd’s publicist did not return calls seeking comment on the matter.
